City of Laredo Council Members Vote for New Mayor Pro-Tempore

Laredo, Texas – During the final City Council meeting of the year on Monday, December 2, 2024, Council Member for District 7 Vanessa Perez was elected as the new Mayor Pro-Tempore. She succeeds Council Member for District 5, Ruben Gutierrez, Jr., who served in the role for the past year.
Council Member Perez is no stranger to this esteemed role, having previously served as Mayor Pro-Tempore from January 18, 2023, to December 2023. She is the second council member and the first woman to be selected twice by her peers for this position, reflecting her unwavering dedication and exemplary service to the community.
“It is an honor and privilege to be selected once again by my colleagues to serve as Mayor Pro-Tempore. I thank the residents of District 7 for allowing me the opportunity to continue serving out my last term after this re-election victory. I am committed to continuing my work for the betterment of our city by advocating for infrastructure improvements, economic development, and the health and safety of our community. Together, we will ensure a brighter future for Laredo.”
As Mayor Pro-Tempore, Council Member Perez will assist Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño in his duties and serve as Acting Mayor in his absence. In accordance with City Ordinance, she will also chair City Council meetings during such occasions.
