(McAllen, Texas)-The McAllen Fire Department is currently hosting a three-day regional training that includes the City of Pharr, City of Mission, City of Edinburg, City of Weslaco and the Borderland Fraternal Order of Leatherhead Society, a local firefighter non-profit organization. This training is the first of its kind in McAllen, which brings together the various cities to learn more about truck company operations. These operations include fire apparatus placement, crew confidence, emergency operations, and allow for cross training of the various city fire departments.
“The City of McAllen is proud to host this groundbreaking regional training, bringing together fire departments from across the Rio Grande Valley to enhance their skills, collaboration, and readiness,” said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos. “This type of partnership and shared learning not only strengthens our fire departments but also ensures the safety and well-being of our communities.”
The 24 students involved in the course have brought ladder trucks from each corresponding city to assist them in the exercises. These types of operations allow firefighters to work various tasks while high on a ladder, as well as on the fire ground.
Students will conclude the training with a scenario that encompasses all aspects of the course on Thurs., Nov. 14, 2024, at 2:00pm. The training is being conducted at the McAllen Fire Department Training Facility located at 10700 North La Lomita Rd., in McAllen.
