Mayor Villalobos Invites Runners, Community to Join, Run the Last Mile of Commemorative Marathon for Fallen Officers



Det. Garcia’s 800-mile trek from Amarillo to conclude in McAllen to support

South Texas Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.)

(McAllen, Texas)-McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos is asking the community, runners and anyone else who wishes to join San Antonio Detective Benjamin Garcia on the final mile of his 800-mile marathon from Amarillo to McAllen, to be laced up and ready to run on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Det. Garcia is running the 800-mile marathon to support families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. His run is scheduled to conclude this Wednesday, October 16 at the McAllen Police Department Memorial for Fallen Officers, located at 1601 N. Bicentennial Blvd., at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Mayor Villalobos is asking anyone who would like to join him, along with Detective Garcia, to run the final mile along Bicentennial Blvd. to the McAllen Police Department. Those wishing to run should wait at the intersection of Nolana Ave. and Bicentennial Blvd. before 11:00 a.m. where they will run south to the MPD Public Safety Building. Det. Garcia and Mayor Villalobos and runners will be escorted by MPD motorcycle cops and cadets. Parking is available along Bicentennial Blvd. along the shoulder.

The community may also welcome Det. Garcia, Mayor Villalobos and the other runners, at the memorial site where a brief ceremony will take place once they arrive.
