Special Recognitions Awarded During Monday’s City Council Meeting

LAREDO, TX— The City of Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor D. Treviño, and members of the Council awarded several individuals during the City Council meeting held on Monday, August 5, 2024, to Laredoans that have outshined and accomplished critical objectives, while representing Laredo before other cities and organizations. The City of Laredo is pleased to continue presenting these recognitions in honor of the outstanding achievements of locals who represent this town through their professional careers and extracurricular activities. Monday’s recipients were as follows:

The City of Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor D. Treviño recognized the Laredo Morning Times Newspaper as part of the Mayor’s Century Club for its 100th Anniversary. Thank you for everything you do and for always keeping the community informed of what’s happening in our city.

United South Middle School 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team
The City of Laredo proudly recognized the 8th grade boys basketball team from United South Middle School for winning back-to-back district and citywide championships. These boys have worked extremely hard and it shows in the court. The players are: Robert Villarreal, Brayden Olivo, Andre Garza, Edward “EJ” Murillo, Adolfo “AJ” Arriaga, Jayden Muniz, Carlos Chavez, Jorge Haro, Roberto Barrientos, Roberto Ramirez, and Marco Chapa. Their head Coach, Joseph Martinez, and Assistant Coach, Jose A. Olivo, were recognized as well for their leadership. Congratulations!

The Laredo Little Theatre
Another group of individuals recognized by Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño was The Laredo Little Theatre for their promotion of artistic expression in Laredo since 1911. Their mission is to promote, develop, and preserve the arts and culture of Laredo and the surrounding communities. The theater has entertained audiences for over 100 years with productions ranging from dramatic new-age plays to youthful classics.

City Charter Revision Commission Committee
The City of Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño and Council recognized members of the City Charter Revision Commission Committee for their hard work in helping with the new charter for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2024-2025 and for assisting the Mayor and Council on items that will appear on the upcoming November election. Members include Judge Alfonso Ornelas, Andrew Carranco, Roque Vela, Jr., Dr. Maria Reyes, Kristina L. Hale, Cliffe Killam, Henry Sauvignet, and Jack C. Byham.
