Rep. Cuellar to Announce Two TAMIU Grants Totaling Over $3.6 Million to Support SANE and CAMP Programs

Laredo, TX – Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) to announce two Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) grants totaling over $3.6 million to Support the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 9:00 A.M. CST.

The grants will sustain the critical Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program through funding from the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) and the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

The SANE grant ($1,473,960) will train 54 registered nurses during a three-year project, with 18 to be certified as a SANE for pediatric populations.

The five-year CAMP grant ($2,184,872) will provide support for migrant students, including new resources to help them succeed academically and professionally such as comprehensive advising services including tutoring, mentoring and academic advising. CAMP offers wrap-around services that address academics, career awareness, mental and physical health, and financial guidance, complemented by essential scholarships.
