LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo is proud to announce that Assistant City Managers, Steve Landin and Jose A. Valdez, Jr. have begun participating in the prestigious Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative in New York, NY. This program, designed to equip city leaders with advanced management and leadership skills, is a first-of-its-kind initiative to close the public sector executive development gap.

The participation of Laredo’s senior leaders follows Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño’s involvement in the program earlier this year. Mayor Dr. Treviño was one of 39 mayors from 11 countries across five continents selected to participate in the eighth class of the Bloomberg Harvard Leadership Initiative. He began the yearlong professional management training program with a four-day immersive classroom experience in New York City, where he engaged with Harvard faculty and renowned management leaders.

Building on the foundation laid by the Mayor’s participation, Assistant City Managers Steve Landin and Jose A. Valdez, Jr. are now representing Laredo in the next phase of the program. This week, they joined other senior leaders from each of the 40 participating cities to begin their journey of professional development.

The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative is designed to equip mayors and senior city leaders with the tools and expertise necessary to expand their problem-solving capacity, strengthen their city halls, and improve outcomes for residents. As cities around the world confront increasingly complex and global challenges, this program offers invaluable training to enhance the effectiveness of municipal leadership.
