The City of Laredo Hosted a Rio Grande Drought Resilience Meeting

LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo, in collaboration with the Utilities Department, hosted the Rio Grande Drought Resilience Meeting on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. This important gathering brought together stakeholders from various border cities such as Eagle Pass, Starr & Hidalgo Counties, and other cities from the Valley, to address the challenges posed by ongoing drought conditions. The goal of the meeting was to develop and implement strategies that enhance and promote the resilience of our communities during drought, ensuring water availability for all border cities.

With the persistent drought conditions affecting this region, it is crucial for border cities to collaborate on water conservation efforts and strategies. This meeting aimed to unify efforts and ensure all cities are on the same page regarding promoting water resilience and conservation.

The City of Laredo Fire Department Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator, Guillermo Heard gave an overview of the South Texas drought and heat conditions along with the Utilities Director, Arturo Garcia who also spoke on the Amistad and Falcon Reservoirs’ current status, alternative water sources, the water supply treatment, car wash businesses and more.
