WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) released a statement after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finalized a rule to address exposure to ethylene oxide emissions and reduce risk to cancer.
“I applaud the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for releasing a final rule today that will reduce the risk of cancer for individuals living near commercial sterilization facilities like the one in North Laredo.
“With this new rule in place, exposure to ethylene oxide emissions will be decreased by over 90% at facilities across the country.
“Overall, I am pleased this rule will protect the health of communities while still considering the importance of medical sterilization devices to hospitals, doctors, and patients.
“Thank you to the EPA for working closely with me to address this issue and ensure the health and safety of Laredoans.”
