McAllen, TX – McAllen International Airport hosted its newest partner, Aeromexico, for a special press event prior to launching the new nonstop route to Mexico City. Starting in February, Aeromexico will conveniently connect McAllen with Mexico City, a top business destination with cultural offerings, world class gastronomy, and endless leisure opportunities.

“This new partnership with Aeromexico will allow McAllen to continue to establish key economic connections with Mexico and beyond. The leadership of McAllen is committed to expanding our presence in Mexico’s markets and we are thankful to be working closely with Aeromexico to realize this vision. We look forward to welcoming visitors from Mexico City to experience everything McAllen has to offer as a destination city,” said Javier Villalobos, McAllen Mayor.

Aeromexico has opened ticket sales for daily nonstop service from McAllen International Airport (MFE) to Mexico City, via Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) with flights commencing February 1, 2024. Mexico City is the prime destination for experiencing both the nation’s modern culture and history. As the center of Mexico’s business community, McAllen’s nonstop route brings new opportunities for economic development between the two regions.

McAllen City Manager, Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. stated, “McAllen is the epicenter of the Rio Grande Valley. This new venture is just another way we are connecting our region to the world. This new air service represents a great opportunity to connect over 20 million residents of Mexico City with McAllen.”

This expansion is part of Aeromexico’s master plan focused on investing in emerging markets throughout the United States. McAllen International Airport is the Rio Grande Valley’s most traveled airport with over 45% market share. As the only airport with year-round international service McAllen International Airport generated another record breaking year with 964,246 passengers in 2023.
