Laredo, Texas — The City of Laredo has been monitoring the National Weather Service notices of inclement weather conditions for our area. An excessive cold front is in effect beginning Sunday, January 14, 2024, with temperatures dropping throughout the day, until Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Laredo’s region will be experiencing extreme cold conditions reaching in the upper teens to mid-20’s, the coldest temperatures since February 2021.
The City of Laredo would like to inform the community that all City Recreation Centers and Libraries can be used as temporary warming spaces during business hours on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. If someone needs shelter after hours starting at 5:00 p.m., they can do so at Haynes Recreation Center, located at 2102 Clarks Crossing Dr., from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Laredo Animal Care Center will provide their Adoption Trailer to house up to 16 pets for those families staying at the warming center.
The City of Laredo is prepared to open additional more warming centers, if needed.
The community is reminded to bring pets indoors. A person found to have left their pet in freezing temperatures could face charges of animal cruelty, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $4,000 and up to one year in jail.
