Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) announced $1,875,000 in federal funds to hire police officers in Laredo. The funds, provided by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Service (COPS) Hiring Program, will be used to hire 15 officers.

“The COPS Hiring Program provides our local law enforcement agencies with the resources they need to protect our communities. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I’ve worked hard to keep this program fully funded. We’re seeing the results of that today right here in Laredo,” said Dr. Cuellar. “I stand with the men and women in blue, and I will continue to provide them with the resources they need to do their jobs well. Thank you to Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño, City Manager Joseph Neeb, and Chief of Police Miguel A. Rodriguez, Jr. for working with me to secure these federal dollars. And to our law enforcement officers, thank you for your service to our community!”

“I would like to express my profound appreciation to Congressman Cuellar. His advocacy and dedication to our cause have been pivotal in securing the necessary funding to add 15 police officers to our community. His commitment to public safety and belief in our department’s potential have made a significant difference,” said Laredo Chief of Police Miguel A. Rodriguez, Jr. “This funding will allow us to enhance our police force, improve public safety, and serve our community better. It is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision. I would also like to thank our City Manager, and the entire city management team and council for their unwavering support in our pursuit to secure funding for additional police officers. Thank you, Congressman Cuellar.”
