LAREDO, Texas— On Saturday, December 16, 2023, the City of Laredo and Mayor Pro Tempore, Ruben Gutierrez, Jr., District 5, partnered once again with Wreaths Across America to honor those who served and to remember the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. Members of the community gathered at the City of Laredo Cemetery to remember and honor local veterans by laying remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes and mention the name of each and every veteran aloud. Additionally, this event advocates to teach the youth and everyone alike about the importance of the sacrifice the men and women in the military.
Each December, Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 3,400 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea, and abroad. All wreaths were sponsored for Laredo’s ceremony and many volunteers attended to assist in the placement of the wreaths on each grave.
During the special ceremony, members of the youth community placed wreaths symbolically before each of the military branches followed by the 21-gun salute by the Honor Guard. Also, Milton Elementary students released patriotic balloons into the sky as the laying of the wreaths commenced.
