Dos Maria’s Basketball Team Falls to Suga Show in Overtime


(Laredo, Texas)-South Laredo’s Suga Show Basketball Team gets by Dos Marias Basketball Team with a 61-50 win in overtime in their Division A home opener last night played at the Haynes Recreational Center. Suga Show took an early lead in the first half only to see it evaporate halfway thru the half against a tough Dos Marias team that played great throughout the night on both ends of the court.


Suga Show was forced to play catchup up until the last closing seconds of the second half in which they managed to finally tie the game in regulation play 47-47 both teams played hard during this time showcasing their strong defenses.

In the 3 minute overtime period the lead flipped back and forth twice until Suga Show found one last burst within them to take and secure a lead with nearly a minute left in overtime play.

Top scorers for Suga Show in its first game of the City of Laredo’s Division A Winter League were Anthony Merino who scored 14 points with 5 rebounds, Jerry Garcia who finished his night with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Josue Casarez who scored 10 points with 3 rebounds, Devin Stallings puts in 8 with 10 rebounds, while Leonardo Campos adds 4 points of his own and Joshwa Palacios adds 2 points to the score both Campos and Palacios were making their Suga Show debut last night as new team members.

This is the first time in 3 seasons that Suga Show starts off with a win they had lost the first game of the previous two seasons while still managing to finish with winning records and playoff appearances in those two seasons. Last night’s win also brings to an end a four-game losing streak that went back to the last two games of the season including two devastating playoff losses.

Last night’s game against Dos Marias was also the second time in two meetings that the game ended in overtime with Suga winning both games coming back from behind in regulation play in both games in the final seconds to force the game into overtime.
Suga Show’s next game will be on December 5th against EZ Money who has started their season in the A Division with a win this week.

EZ Money is led by Chuy Treviño whom was a former member of Suga Show and a former team member of the legendary Tune Squad who won the championship in the C Division in last year’s City of Laredo Summer League.

The 2023 Suga Show roster for this winter season includes Anthony Merino, Julian Gonzalez, Tony Garza, Devin Stallings, Billy Rodd, Josue Casarez, Austin Estevis, Sergio Castillo, Eddie Jaime, Leonardo Campos, Adrian Gaytan, Jaime Perez, Albert Moncivais, Jerry Garcia, Joshwa Palacios and Chuy Cisneros.
