City of Laredo Announced Dia de los Muertos Event

Laredo, Texas — The City of Laredo and District 6 Council Member Dr. Tyler King, held a press conference on Wednesday, September 27 to announce the first Dia de los Muertos Pozole Cooking Contest and 5K Glow Run/Walk. The first-of-its-kind event will take place on Saturday, November 4 at North Central Park, located at 10202 International Blvd., from 1:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. There will be music, food, a Catrina dress-up contest, informational booths, and much more. The community is invited to take part in this family fun-filled event.

The ”Día de los Muertos” is a holiday celebrated among the Hispanic community, mostly in Mexico, starting on November 1 and November 2, believing that the spirits of their loved ones return home to spend time with their families. This local event will highlight some of the unique traditions all those of Mexican heritage continue to practice and pass on to the next generation.

Anyone wishing to participate in the pozole cooking contest can do so by clicking here or scanning the QR code below. Prizes will be awarded to the top three pozole dishes:

1st place – $500 visa gift card
2nd place – $300 visa gift card
3rd place – $150 visa gift card
People’s Choice winner – Trophy and certificate
Participants wanting to register for the 5K Glow Run and Walk can do so by scanning the QR code below or by clicking here. Award medals will be given to the top 3 male and female winners in each age category and trophies to both overall male and female winners.

“Día de los Muertos is a unique holiday here in South Texas and throughout Mexico, and I’m excited to host this event here in Laredo,” said Council Member Dr. Tyler King.
