City of Laredo Shares Available Options to Keep Cool During Extreme Weather Conditions

Courtesy Noraida Negron,

Laredo, Texas — The City of Laredo has been monitoring the National Weather Service notices of extreme weather conditions for our area. An excessive heat warning is in effect until 7:00 PM. Laredo’s region will be experiencing dangerous hot conditions with the highest temperatures possible registering above 108°F with a heat index value as high as 114°F. These conditions are forecast to continue through the next few days. The community must be aware that these hot temperatures and high humidity levels impact people’s health and may contribute to heat illnesses. It is crucial for people that must spend long periods of time outdoors, to drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks out of the sun, and take extra precautions while being outside.

The City of Laredo would like to inform the community that all City buildings could be used as temporary cooling spaces. If pedestrians need a moment to cool down, they may enter a public city building until they feel ready to continue their course.

Furthermore, the Parks & Recreation Department will have space available for people that may need a place to cool off from these temperatures throughout the summer. The following recreation centers will be available during their usual hours of operation:

· El Eden Recreation Center, 4735 Loma Vista Dr.

· Haynes Recreation Center, 2102 Clark’s Crossing Dr.

· Barbara Fasken Recreation Center, 15201 Cerralvo Dr.
