City of Laredo Celebrated the Groundbreaking of the New Soccer Mini-Pitch in Judith Zaffirini Park

LAREDO, TX— The City of Laredo, and District 4 Council Member, Alberto Torres, Jr., held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new soccer Mini-Pitch. The Ceremony took place on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Senator Judith Zaffirini Park (previously known as Ochoa/Nixon Park) located at 1900 E. Plum St.

The City of Laredo received a grant from the United States Soccer Foundation, Inc., through the funding of the Audrey & Carlos Zaffirini Family Foundation to fund the structure and lighting for this project. In addition, the City of Laredo Parks & Recreation Department and discretionary funds from District 4 will be used to install a concrete or asphalt pad to support the installation of the Mini Pitch.

The project includes an acrylic mini pitch surface with goal and lighting installation supplied by Musco Sports Lighting in the amount of $100,000.00

The project will be completed no later than fall 2023.

In addition, Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño, gave the Key to the City to Senator Judith Zaffirini for being the highest bill passer in the state capitol for the fifth consecutive session, while extending her 100% voting record to 70,000+ consecutive votes.
