Laredo, Texas (Webb County) — Jorge Luis Duenas was found unresponsive on the second floor at the Webb County Jail Friday at approximately 5:23 A.M. Officers were conducting roll-call when they noticed Duenas didn’t get up from his bunk. Immediately, officers called for backup and started conducting life-saving measures.
Laredo Fire Department paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and transported Duenas to Laredo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:59 A.M. Our preliminary investigation indicates that Duenas may have died of natural causes. No foul play has been determined.
The Webb County Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death. Duenas was arrested on July 22, 2022, by the Laredo Police Department for intoxication manslaughter F/2, intoxication assault F/3 2-counts, interference with pubic duties C/B, and resisting arrest C/A. Duenas was being held on a $207,000 bond. Sheriff Cuellar called the Laredo Police Department to conduct an investigation for transparency.
Sheriff Cuellar sends his deepest condolences to the family. The investigation is ongoing.
