LAREDO, TEXAS – The City of Laredo is excited to continue the Laredo Youth Council (LYC) for high school juniors and seniors. The LYC will serve as a space for students to cultivate their leadership skills, learn about municipal government and cultivate ideas as citizens of Laredo, Texas. The program was created through a Council motion from District 4 Council Member Alberto Torres, Jr., who brought this to City Council in February of 2020.
Participation in this Council will give students a first-hand and in-depth opportunity to work with City leadership across departments and elected officials.
They will hold monthly meetings and participate in service events throughout the school year.
In addition, all students selected to be part of the LYC will have an opportunity to participate in a summer internship and mentorship program within the City of Laredo during summer break 2023.
Incoming juniors and seniors from Laredo high schools are encouraged to apply by filling out an application that can be viewed here.
