Laredo City Council Recognized Laredoans Who Go Above and Beyond

LAREDO, TX— The City of Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño and Council Members presented various recognitions to individuals from the community that have gone above and beyond throughout their careers. During the City Council meeting held on Monday, April 3, 2023, these Laredoans were congratulated for their achievements, while representing Laredo in other cities and organizations, including those that have excelled internally in the City of Laredo. The organization is pleased to continue presenting these recognitions in honor of the accomplishments of locals who represent this town through their professions and/or extracurricular activities. Monday’s honorees were:
Mr. Cisneros was recognized for his achievements in over 40 years of coaching and community service to the city of Laredo. Throughout his career, Mr. Cisneros was a teacher in 12 different schools and a volunteer coach, where the students were in need of sports programs and taught them how to be team players.
Mr. Salomon Abrego
Mayor Dr. Trevino presented a recognition to a member of the Century Club, Mr. Salomon Abrego, for his lifetime that has spanned over 100 years. In his honor, his son received the recognition at City Hall. Mr. Abrego is a veteran and was a pharmacist for 73 years. He was a great influence on his son to go into the medical field.
Employees of the Year 2022
The City of Laredo employees are those who make a difference in the quality of services that a city provides to the citizens. Thanking for their hard work and dedication, creates a culture of continued success. A group of employees were honored and recognized in their respective areas for the admirable work that these individuals have done to receive the honor of the Employee of the Year 2022.
Joanne M. White (Planning Department) – Ms. White has been employed with the City for 12 years. She started with the Fire Department for 9 years. For the last three years, Joanne has been excelling at the Planning Services Department with commitment to service, professional excellence, and superior performance. During her time with the planning department Joanne has been a constant top performer and always exceeded expectations. Joanne’s peers describe her as someone that continually displays a superior work ethic, positive attitude, and eagerness for new responsibilities. She is unfailingly pleasant, courteous, and professional. Customers have expressed their positive feedback to the department’s director, confirming that Ms. White’s recognition as Employee of the Year is well deserved.

Edgar Orozco (Building Department) – Mr. Orozco is an employee who represents exactly the profile of a City employee. Being employed with the City for more than 9 years, he is dedicated to his staff and has excellent interaction with all the citizens he comes in contact with while handling a diverse range of events that occur on a daily basis. Edgar’s professionalism reflects and exemplifies the customer service the City of Laredo thrives to achieve. Mr. Orozco possesses the demeanor and disposition to manage difficult cases. Director John Hickle mentioned that they are proud of Mr. Orozco’s accomplishments and know that he deserves this honor of being awarded Employee of the Year.

Ruben Valle (Laredo Fire Department) – A very deserving employee, Fire Captain Raul G. Valle was recognized City Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2022. Capt. Valle currently works at Fire Station #8, where he performs many assignments along with his team, overseeing areas in districts 1–3. He is also the Chaplain of the department, which gives him the opportunity to assist his peers with emotional or mental support. Capt. Valle is an example to all officers and firefighters, while helping the citizens of Laredo. His professionalism and efforts are recognized by his supervisors and fellow firefighters. Serving the Laredo Fire Department for 20 years, Capt. Valle has been part of the training division and continues offering his support to everyone in need. Fire Chief Guillermo Heard called Capt. Valle a “true public servant”.
