LAREDO, TX— The City of Laredo, Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño, and District 5 Council Member, Ruben Gutierrez, Jr., hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vietnam Veteran’s Plaza, on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
This plaza/trail will honor all the brave men and women who fought for our country during the Vietnam War. “We have been waiting a long time for this trail and thanks to District 5 Council Member, Ruben Gutierrez, Jr. for making it possible”, said Veteran Jesus “Guero” Segovia. A trail like this will allow residents to come out and enjoy it with their loved ones.
The project will consist of approximately 1,400 linear feet of a 10-foot-wide walking trail adjacent to the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library. Twenty seven trees will also be planted around the area in honor of the twenty seven Laredoans who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.
The $247,100 development was funded by the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) of 2021/2022, and should take approximately 60 days to complete.
