Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 223,000 jobs were gained in December and the unemployment rate dropped to 3.5%:
“Today’s jobs report concludes another year of job gains. The United States’ economy has proven to be resilient, and more Americans are back to work,” said Congressman Cuellar. “We ended 2022 with more jobs and lower unemployment than in 2021. Year-over-year statistics also show hourly earnings have risen by 4.6%. These are good paying jobs that enable American men and women to achieve their American Dream. As South Texas’ voice in Congress, I will continue to fight for job creation across the 28th Congressional District of Texas and the United States.”
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported this morning that total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 223,000 in December, and the unemployment rate edged down to 3.5%. Notable job gains occurred in the leisure and hospitality, health care, construction, and social assistance industries.
