Special Recognitions Awarded During Monday’s Council Meeting

LAREDO, TX— The City of Laredo and Council Members presented several recognitions during the Council meeting held on Monday, November 28, 2022, to laredoans that have excelled and accomplished very important objectives, while placing the name of Laredo before other cities and organizations. The City of Laredo is pleased to continue presenting these recognitions in honor of the achievements of local residents who represent this town through their professional careers or extracurricular activities. Monday’s recipients were the following:
Mr. Efrain Sanchez, Municipal Civil Service Commission
Mayor Pete Saenz presented a recognition to Mr. Efrain Sanchez for serving on the Municipal Civil Service Commission during the Mayor’s tenure.
Mr. Emilio Garcia
Members of the Council presented a recognition to Mr. Emilio Garcia for winning the 2022 Team USA Boxing International Invitational in Colorado Springs. Representing Team USA, Emilio won his first elite international gold medal in the light welterweight division.
Mr. Randy Howe
Mayor Pete Saenz presented the Key to the City to Mr. Randy Howe, Director of Field Operations for CBP Laredo Field Office, in recognition of his exemplary service and dedication to the community and the Nation.
Dr. Richard Chamberlain, Health Department Director
Dr. Richard Chamberlain was presented with a recognition for being selected as a presenter in a group of medical health providers at the White House Summit on COVID-19 Evidence Based Health Equity Programs held on November 16, 2022.
Public Access Channel and Public Information Office
The City of Laredo Public Information Office and Laredo TV, formerly known as the Public Access Channel, participated in the 2022 Government Programming Awards, hosted at the 26th Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers & Advisors (TATOA) in McAllen, Texas. For the second year, PIO participated in the conference and it is the first year they submitted videos created and designed in-house for the awards. There were over 300 videos submitted for this program, from over 30 cities in Texas, in 37 categories. Laredo PIO submitted 8 videos in different categories. Three of the videos were selected and got recognized with an Award of Merit.
Visit Laredo
Visit Laredo, from the Convention & Visitors Bureau, was recognized by City Council for winning the Silver Adrian Award for excellence in travel marketing from the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association (HSMAI). The HSMAI Adrian Awards are held to honor excellence in travel marketing for 65 years and celebrate the best in advertising, digital, PR/communications, and integrated campaigns.
Mr. Dan Firova
Members of the Council awarded a special recognition to Mr. Dan Firova, Coach for the Houston Astros. This recognition was presented to Mr. Firova for his contributions to the team and for achieving the title of 2022 World Series Champion.
