The City of Laredo kicks off a drug overdose prevention campaign.

Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo has been experiencing an increase this year in cases of Drug-Involved Overdose Deaths across all ages and genders. According to recent data, Laredo averages 15 drug-involved overdose-related cases monthly.
Locally, there have been over 150 drug-involved overdoses this year. The highest number of overdoses have been linked to heroin, medications, and other unknown drugs. Therefore, the City of Laredo, in collaboration with the Laredo Health Department, the Laredo Police Department, the Laredo Fire Department, United ISD, Laredo ISD, Laredo College, TAMIU, and the Webb County District Attorney’s Office are partnering to reduce the number of drug-involved overdoses.
Furthermore, the City of Laredo invites other entities to join the efforts in advocating against illegal or prescription opioid drug usage.
“In recent months, we have seen a great increase in drug-involved overdose, which has led us to join forces with other entities to put a stop to the abuse of illegal drug use,” said Chief Claudio Trevino from the Laredo Police Department.
Dr. Richard Chamberlain, Laredo Health Director, adds, “the usage of illicit drugs has been of great concern in our community, and we acknowledge that it is one of the top public health challenges we face today.”
Drug-involved overdose continues to be a significant public health problem in the United States. It contributes to many deaths among those who use or misuse illicit or prescription opioid drugs.
