Sheriff’s Office Correctional Officers Intercept Drugs

Laredo, TX (Webb County) –In two separate incidents, Webb County Sheriff’s Office correctional officers early Sunday morning intercepted small amounts of cocaine intended to make its way into the Webb County Jail.
In the first incident, during intake procedures on Raul Moreno Uvalle, 29, who was initially brought in by another law enforcement agency on charges of 16 counts of smuggling of persons, correctional officers noticed 4 small Ziploc bags with a white rocky substance in his wallet. He was additionally charged with prohibited substance in a correctional facility. Inmate Moreno Uvalle was charged with Prohibited Substance in Correctional Facility F/3. No Bond.
In the second incident, during procedures on Bayron Sanchez Rodriguez, 32, correctional officers discovered a white bag of white powdery substance in his wallet. He was initially brought in by another law enforcement agency on a DWI. Rodriguez is pending additional charges and he remains at the Webb County Jail.
“I congratulate our correctional officers for deterring cocaine from going into the Webb County Jail. The training our correctional officers are constantly receiving is paying strong dividends,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “I strongly encourage the public to report anyone who you know may be attempting to smuggle drugs into the jail by calling our hotline at 956-415-BUST (2878).
