Sheriff’s Office Arrest Three Men for Illegally Discharging a Firearm

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Sunday, September 18, at approximately 7:55PM, Webb County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to Pinzon Road, off highway 359 for a shots fired called. Upon arrival, deputies heard loud concussion blasts caused by a firearm coming from the direction of Francisco Guerra Jr. Road. Additionally, multiple calls came into the 911-dispatch center reporting calls of shots fired.

Deputies set up a perimeter by Francisco Guerra Jr. Road and advanced towards a semi-open field where they located three male subjects identified as Gerardo Enrique Zapata, 20, Josue Manuel Gaytan, 18, and Alexis Adrian Cruz, 19. Deputies recovered from the scene an Ak-47 assault rifle, an AR-15, a 22-caliber rifle, and a Walter 9mm pistol.

Crime scene investigators processed the scene, located, and recovered numerous spent casings.  After canvassing the area, deputies located a residence on Nacogdoches Road where a stray bullet had impacted. The homeowners stated that as they were having dinner, they heard a loud impact and noticed that a projectile had impacted the kitchen wall inches away from where they were sitting.

All three men were placed under arrest for Deadly Conduct Class A. They were then transported to the Webb County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 dollar bond each.

“Illegal discharge of a firearm is a serious offense. Intentionally and knowingly pointing a firearm at another person, residence or vehicle is considered reckless and dangerous” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar, “I ask and remind the community that if you know of anyone committing any type of crime, please call our hotline at 956-415-BUST(2878). You may be eligible for a cash reward.”
