Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Monday, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office continued its investigation into the drowning of a five–year-old boy in Rio Bravo Saturday evening.

At approximately 11:23 pm Saturday, Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of Paseo De Neva after receiving a call of an unresponsive child who had possibly drowned inside a swimming pool.

Deputies began CPR on the child until the Rio Bravo Fire Department arrived and took over the life-saving techniques.

The victim was transported to Laredo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by hospital personnel.

“This unfortunate death reminds us of the importance of never leaving a child unattended near or around a swimming pool,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “My condolences to the family of the child.”
