(Laredo, Texas)-Leaders from our state and local community came out to show their support for Operation Border Health Preparedness ( formerly Operation Lonestar). The event is an exercise to expedite medical care to the community in the event of a public health crisis, and also serves as a no-cost clinic for basic health services.

The event is coordinated by theTexas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), and many partners – who will continue to offer free health care services to the community through this Saturday at the L.B. Johnson 9th Grade campus located at 5511 St. Luke Avenue. Services include immunizations for adults and children, diabetic screenings, hearing, vision and blood pressure screenings and basic dental services. “Much work and time goes into the planning of this clinic, which is supported by many organizations.

I am very pleased that the TDSHS and the City of Laredo have teamed up again to provide no-cost health care services to the Laredo community and other areas of South Texas.

This initiative gives our state, non-profit partners and local governments an opportunity to provide a multitude of health services to local families” said Richard A. Chamberlain, Health Director for the City of Laredo Health Department .

Laredo Mayor Pete Saenz emphasized that Operation Border Health Preparedness is also a public and military training exercise that helps medical personnel prepare for occasions when mass scale healthcare is needed in our community.

The no- cost clinics will continue through this Saturday. Clinic hours for Friday, July 28 are 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., and Saturday, July 30. 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
