McAllen Public Library to Host Free Community Health Fair

Additional telehealth services will be debuted, thanks to grant awarded by state, national organizations
McAllen Public Library will host a Community Health Fair on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to1:00 p.m. at the Main Library at 4001 23rd Street and Nolana Avenue.
Attendees are invited to take advantage of free health screenings, local providers on site, informational stations, and children’s crafts.
“The Health Fair is an opportunity for our community to receive free health screenings and interact with local health and wellness providers,” says Library Director Kate Horan.
“Working with our health partners, McAllen Public Library is raising awareness of the many local free and low-cost health resources available. We want to encourage all individuals, but especially those individuals with disabilities, veterans, or who are uninsured, to learn more about where to seek health services in the Rio Grande Valley.”
Dr. Martin Ekoumou, M.D. and students from UTRGV-UT Health Rio Grande Valley, Southern Careers Institute, and the College of Health Care Professionals will be onsite providing free health screenings, such as blood pressure checks, BMI testing, diabetes screening and cholesterol testing.
Other organizations such as Texas A&M Healthy South Texas, Valley AIDS Council, Unidos Contra la Diabetes, and many others will share information about their services to the community.

The Library will also debut Care4Me, McAllen Public Library’s newest program offering a confidential location inside the library for patrons to access real-time telehealth services.
The dedicated conference room at Main Library’s Lobby will offer a computer with a high-speed internet connection and a webcam to aid in users’ virtual or video appointments.
Patrons will also have available basic equipment, such as a blood pressure cuff with sanitizing occurring after each use.
The telehealth service and equipment is thanks to a grant awarded to the McAllen Public Library by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) and the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS).
