Local Man Arrested in Connection with Homicide Last Week

Laredo, Texas – Webb County Sheriff’s Office investigators on Saturday evening arrested a local man in connection with a homicide that happened last week in El Cenizo.
Angel Javier Fernandez, 28, was charged with murder felony 1 and was transported to the Webb County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
He is wanted in connection with the death of Rolando Lopez, 54, who was found unresponsive inside the restroom at a home on the 600 block of Rosales Street in El Cenizo.
On Saturday afternoon, sheriff deputies and investigators arrived on the 600 block of Cadena to locate a person of interest. As units arrived at the location, the male subject attempted to flee, but was quickly apprehended by deputies and Special Weapons And Tactical Unit members. Fernandez was detained and taken in for questioning.
Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, which led to the location of several pieces of evidence related to Lopez’ death. Investigators questioned Fernandez, and after presenting the case to the Webb County District Attorney’s Office, investigators obtained an arrest warrant.
Sheriff Martin Cuellar lauded the work of everyone involved in the case, saying, “The work demonstrated in this case is indicative of the hard-working men and women we have in the Sheriff’s Office. They worked countless hours a day making sure justice was served, and they have accomplished it.”
