City of Laredo Experiences Increase in COVID-19 Cases

Courtesy David Alegria,

Laredo, Texas – As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Webb County, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has ranked the community risk level in the county from low to medium.

For more information about the Healthy Living/Viviendo Mejor program, as well as other sites for classes, please contact Fabiola Guerra, Project Coordinator at the City of Laredo Health Department at (956) 721-4994.

The City of Laredo Health Department has seen an increase in positive cases since June 1. Community levels are based on a seven day percentage of new cases, COVID-19 hospital admissions, and bed occupancy.

The community can gather up-to-date COVID-19 data through the Texas Department of State Health Services webpage.

The community is encouraged to follow precautionary measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. An individual who is at high risk for severe illness is recommended to speak to a healthcare provider about precautionary measures that must be taken during this time.

The Laredo Health Department continues to stress the importance of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine and/or a booster shot.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) most recently announced that it will have a meeting on Wednesday, June 15 to discuss the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to the 6 month to 4/5 year old population. Surveillance testing and wearing face masks are also highly encouraged during this stage, especially if someone experiences symptoms, has traveled or been in large crowds, or plans to gather with family or friends who may be at high-risk of severe illness.

COVID-19 vaccines and testing services are offered at the City of Laredo Health Department (no cost) along with other clinics and pharmacies (may have cost) across the city.

The clinic at the Laredo Health Department (vaccine and testing operation) is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and is located at 2600 Cedar Ave.

For more information about testing or to report positive cases, the community may contact Laredo Health’s Epidemiology Division at 956-795-4951.
