Laredo, Texas—Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced increased federal funding for the National Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Hotlines. The hotlines provide 24-hour, toll free and confidential services immediately connecting callers to local service providers. Services are offered in multiple languages.

“Hotlines can save the lives of people undergoing difficult situations such as domestic abuse, child abuse and those struggling with their mental health,” said Congressman Cuellar. “When faced with domestic violence or child abuse, people can often experience guilt, shame, and confusion, making it difficult to reach out for the help they desperately need. By expanding the National Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Hotlines, we can reach more people who are facing vulnerable situations.”

Congressman Cuellar requested language that will increase funding in the FY23 Appropriations legislation.

“Information and education equals prevention. As District Attorney, I appreciate Congressman Cuellar’s support for law enforcement. The Domestic Violence Hotline will have a strong impact in the fight against domestic violence,” said Isidro R. Alaniz, District Attorney Webb-Zapata.
