Laredo Mayor and City Council Present Recognitions to Remarkable Laredoans

Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo Mayor, Pete Saenz, and Members of Council recognized several individuals during Tuesday’s City Council Meeting. These groups and residents have excelled in their organizations and areas. The recognition and appreciation was extended to their families, coaches, and teachers for their support and encouragement. The City of Laredo is pleased to continue with these recognitions in honor of the achievements of local residents who represent Laredo through their professional careers or extracurricular activities. Tuesday’s recipients were the following:
United South High School – Silver Steppers
The first group receiving a recognition was the United South High School Silver Steppers for winning the National Champions Team Open Pom. This group also received Second Place Team Lyrical and Second Place Team Military, Steppers Officer line National Champions in Lyrical, Pom and Hip-Hop at MA Nationals in Arlington, Texas. The Silver Steppers perform under the direction of Ms. Grizelda Dozal and Ms. Jasmin Flores.
United South High School – Colorguard
The next recognition was presented to the United South High School Color guard for winning the Grand National Champions at MA Nationals in Arlington, Texas. Their efforts and dedication have taken this group to achieve their goals and the City of Laredo is proud of their accomplishments.
Captain Cesar A. Merla,
Capt. Cesar A. Merla from the Texas Army National Guard was recognized by the City Council for his dedication and hard work over his years of service, and most importantly, through the COVID-19 pandemic. Capt. Merla was the main leader of many vaccination drives, water distributions, tent deployments, and other tasks. (Picture not available)
Robotics State Championship
During the Council meeting, students from Cigarroa H. S. and Nixon H.S. were recognized for winning the 2022 UIL Robotics State Championship FTC 5A – 6A Division, in Houston, Texas. These students excelled in this competition and the City of Laredo encourages them to continue working hard in their future endeavors.
Additionally, the Martin High School Robotics team was also recognized for qualifying for the 2022 UIL Robotics State Championship. This team has overcome obstacles through the pandemic and City Council acknowledged their resilience, going above and beyond to fulfill their objectives.
The City of Laredo congratulates all recipients for their hard work and continues to encourage them to lead by example.
