CBP Officers Seize $1.2 Million Worth in Hard Narcotics Over Two Enforcement Actions at the Laredo Port of Entry

LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge seized a combination of hard narcotics that totaled over $1,200,000 in street value in two separate, unrelated enforcement actions.
“Our CBP officers’ knowledge of concealment methods and the technology they utilize on a daily basis played a key role in the discovery of narcotics,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “I congratulate the officers in their continued efforts to uphold the CBP mission and protect the public from illegal narcotics.”
The first enforcement action occurred on Tuesday, February 8th, when a CBP officer assigned to the Juarez Lincoln Bridge referred a 2014 Volvo 9700 Coach Bus for a secondary examination.
Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, CBP officers discovered a total of 10.25 pounds of alleged fentanyl, 2.2 pounds of alleged cocaine, and 2.75 pounds of alleged heroin concealed within the bus. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $434,730.
The second seizure occurred on Friday, February 11th, when a CBP officer assigned to the Juarez Lincoln Bridge referred a 2013 Hyundai passenger van making entry from Mexico for secondary inspection. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, CBP officers discovered a total of 42.21 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the van.
A 37-year-old male Mexican citizen driver was interviewed in connection with the alleged narcotics attempt. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $837,748. The driver was arrested, and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
The two seizures combined had an estimated street value of $1,272,478.
