Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – A traffic stop by Webb County Sheriff’s Office deputies Thursday led to the recovery of four stolen vehicles, weapons and ammunition, and the arrest of a local man.

The ordeal, which started on Interstate 35 southbound, led to the recovery of two stolen vehicles out of San Antonio and the arrest of Christian Salinas, 27, of Laredo. Deputies also recovered a handgun at the scene.

Further investigation led deputies to a vacant lot in east Laredo, where two more stolen vehicles, also out of San Antonio, were recovered. One of the vehicles, when it was stolen in San Antonio, was taken at gunpoint from the owner.

Later that afternoon, deputies executed a search warrant at a residence in east Laredo where rifles, handguns, two Yugoslavian M68 training rifle grenades, and a stockpile of ammunition was recovered.

“These seizures are of extreme importance because we deterred the criminals from practicing or training for the use of military explosives,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

“This stolen vehicle incident in San Antonio proves that criminals are always on the alert and ready to commit a crime,” Sheriff Cuellar added. “I remind the public to be extra vigilant and aware of their surroundings when entering and exiting their vehicles. Should you witness any suspicious activity, please call our hotline at 956-415-BUST (2878).”

The investigation continues.
