Public Art Master Plan to be shared by City of Laredo

Laredo, Texas – The people of Laredo enthusiastically want public art, as expressed through a community survey earlier this year. Now, there is a draft Public Art Master Plan that details how artwork can be a force for improving the beauty, economy, image, and daily quality of life for all in Laredo.
The Laredo Public Art Master Plan will be unveiled by City officials, staff, and their consultant, UP Art Studio, at a virtual Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

District 8 Council Member, Alyssa Cigarroa, will serve as Host for this virtual event. The consultant will give a presentation that covers highlights of the comprehensive master plan, which is over 250 pages. The plan includes the vision, goals, and policies, as it also reflects extensive community input. It provides a detailed set of guidelines for administering a new city program, a 10-year strategic plan, a visual “idea book” with inspiring images of public art, and more.
The master plan is scheduled to be presented to City Council on Tuesday, January 18. The drafted plan will be available online in the City of Laredo website. It will be posted in advance at:

Dedicated funding for public art in Laredo was created by a City Council ordinance in 2019. Annually, 2% of the eligible budget/costs of eligible capital improvement projects are set aside for public art. For the current and past fiscal year, this has generated a $300,000 budget annually for the public art program.
