(Laredo, Texas)-The United High School Student Council kicked off this year’s Meet In the Middle Celebration with a magical Disney scene from the film “COCO.” The 35 Student Council members worked together to make this event culturally and historically significant.
The mission of the yearly occasion is to demonstrate campus unity and to promote acceptance and inclusion of all students, regardless of their abilities and backgrounds. The Meet in the Middle Program incorporates special olympics, leadership and related activities that empower youth to be agents of change and acceptance in our school and community.
“Our students and staff work together to spread a message of kindness and acceptance. Everyone has the right to be treated with respect and dignity,” said Laura De Los Santos, Executive Director for Special Education.
The United High School Mariachi group made a grand appearance and surprised students with popular song selections from the COCO film. It was a pure sight of joy as students jumped out of their seats to join in the singing and dancing. The festival featured stations such as Picture Frame, Memory Game, Masks, Just Dance, Loteria, Connect 4, Head Band, and Poke a Prize.
