Laredo, Texas – In response to the influx of bused migrants in the community, the City of Laredo, Mayor Pete Saenz, and U.S. Border Patrol have come to a mutual agreement to stop transferring migrants at our local shelters, which are currently over capacity. Instead, the City has arranged transportation availability to offer migrants a safe method of traveling to other cities in the State of Texas with a lower hospitalization rate.
“Given the circumstances that we face with local shelters and our hospitals, this at least provides some relief and for our community and allows the migrants to reach their destinations safely,” said Pete Saenz, Laredo Mayor.
As COVID-19 cases and hospitalization rates continue to increase in Laredo at an alarming pace, the City continues to safeguard the community’s medical needs first, as well as offer a safer avenue for migrants.
