City, County Confirm New COVID-19 Related Deaths

LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo and Webb County have THREE new confirmed deaths related to COVID-19. The City and County want to express their most sincere condolences to the families of those who have lost a loved one through this pandemic and want them to know that counselors and teams are available to support them.

· The 870th death of a Webb County resident was a male in his mid-40s. He died on Saturday, August 07, 2021.

· The 871st death of a Webb County resident was a male in his late-50s. He died on Saturday, August 07, 2021.

· The 872nd death of a Webb County resident was a male in his early-50s. He died on Sunday, August 08, 2021.

As of 5:00 PM on Monday, August 9, 2021, a total of: 376,527 people have been tested; 47,148 have resulted positive; 688 are estimated active (8/8/2021: 736; 8/7/2021: 799). Of the 688 active cases:

• 242 cases are below the age of 19

• 369 cases are between the ages 20-49

• 77 cases are above the age of 50

• Of the active investigated, 164 cases (76.3%) are not vaccinated

• 44 total year to date vaccine breakthrough cases

Furthermore, 45,588 are estimated recovered (8/8/2021: 45,422; 8/7/2021: 45,359); 68 are currently hospitalized; 25 of those in the COVID ICU. The hospitalization rate is at 18.62% as of 8/9/21 (8/8/2021: 13.27%; 8/7/2021: 14.39%) and 872 people have died.

Vaccine Statistics:

• Percentage of population 12+ vaccinated with at least one dose: 204,097 (94.52%)

• Percentage of population 12+ who are fully Vaccinated: 166,126 (76.94%)

• Percentage of 65+ population Vaccinated with at least one dose: 25,435 (94.38%)

In order to safeguard legally-protected information, the City of Laredo is not publicly releasing personal or identifiable information regarding any cases as it relates to COVID-19, results or monitoring. Stay home if you are sick and call your doctor. Do not go to the doctor’s office, call them first. If it is an emergency, call 9-1-1. Please continue to do your part in preventing the spread of all diseases. Follow the guidelines below:

• Follow CDC and WHO guidelines and practice physical distancing

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer can be used when soap and water are not readily available

• Wear a mask or face covering (if you are unvaccinated)

• Avoid touching your face

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick

• Stay home when you are sick

• Cover all coughs and sneezes

• Clean frequently-touched surfaces
