Mighty Longhorn Band Director John J. Mallon Presents at TBA Conference in San Antonio

(Laredo, Texas)-John J. Mallon, Director of the Mighty Longhorn Band, was recently invited to host a Recruiting and Retention Clinic at the 2021 Texas Bandmasters Association’s (TBA) Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Two additional panelists joined Mr. Mallon to present Capturing and Cultivating Great Band Students: A Conversation on Recruiting and Retention.
Mr. Mallon’s clinic synopsis is as follows: “Students today find themselves bombarded with countless opportunities that are ‘perfect for their future,’ and we find ourselves constantly contemplating how to cut through the noise and remain relevant to the next generation of band students.” Mallon discusses strategies to engage, grow, and retain great students in band programs.
Mr. Mallon is a veteran educator with United ISD and has been the Mighty Longhorn Band Director for 32 years and was most recently awarded district-wide Secondary Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year.
