WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced $15,679,241 for the McAllen International Airport from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This grant was made available through supplemental funding provided under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2019.
McAllen International Airport intends to use this federal funding to improve drainage and erosion control for the airport and its surrounding facilities. Funding will complete phase seven of eight to enclose open drainage canals that attract wildlife on the airfield to adhere to FAA drainage standards.
“It is vitally important that our airports have the most up-to-date infrastructure to prevent flooding and ensure safe and efficient travel,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “I am proud to secure this funding and provide the McAllen International Airport with the capital it needs to improve and update as it expands its services.”
“This federal grant is vital to improving airport infrastructure to ensure the highest level of airfield safety,” said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos. “We appreciate Congressman Gonzalez’ efforts to secure funding that will continue to enhance safety at McAllen International Airport.”
“McAllen International Airport is the busiest airport in South Texas and plays an integral role in our economy and quality of life. This grant will allow us to maximize airfield safety and to continue growing general aviation, commercial and cargo air service,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. “Thanks to Congressman Gonzalez for his continued support of our community.”
