(McAllen, Tx)-Earlier this year, the City of McAllen opened up the first .4 mile-section of the Bicentennial Blvd. Extension Project, which is extending the roadway an additional 2.8 miles from Trenton Road to S.H. 107.

The second 1.5-mile section of the roadway will now be opened, from the intersection of Auburn Avenue to Freddy Gonzalez. It is an urban four- lane roadway with designated right and left turn lanes at roadway intersections, adjacent sidewalks, storm-water system to manage subsurface drainage, water and sanitary sewer infrastructure and noise barrier.

The project was designed by Halff Associates, Inc. and the entire construction contract was awarded to Texas Cordia Construction, LLC of Edinburg, Texas in an amount of approximately $13.03 million.

Funding for the project came from the Federal Highway Administration, Texas Department of Transportation and the Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (RGV MPO), and other local sources totaling $10.6 million. The remaining $2.43 million is being funded from the 2013 Bond Election.

The City of McAllen anticipates opening the last .9-mile segment of the Bicentennial Blvd. extension project for late next month.
