United ISD Names New Director of Facilities Maintenance & Operations

(Laredo, Texas)-The United Independent School District (UISD) Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos, are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Alfonso Peña as the district’s new Director of Facilities Maintenance and Operations. Mr. Peña will succeed Mr. Rogelio Gutierrez in the position on June 11, 2021.
Mr. Peña is a project manager and designer with more than 14 years of experience in managing multi million dollar projects. His expertise includes coordinating and overseeing all design phases, project programming, cost estimates, and construction administration for new and remodeling projects. His vast experience also encompasses the coordination of civil, structural and MEP engineers – and serving as a liaison between clients, consultants and contractors.
Mr. Peña attended the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico as part of the UTSA Architecture program in 2005, and earned his Bachelor Of Science in Architecture from the UTSA in 2006. He began his career shortly thereafter at Laredo Community College (now Laredo College), as an Assistant Project Manager. He participated in the modernization of campus instructional buildings and infrastructure. He also prepared construction documents for renovation, restoration, and new construction projects. In 2010 he joined Sepulveda Associates Architects, Inc., and has since worked on multiple projects for the Texas Dept. of Transportation, Laredo Independent School District, the City of Laredo and the Horizon Group.
