City of Laredo Health Department Announces Downscale of Vaccination Sites

Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo Health Department appreciates the partnership established with Curative over the past year to provide vaccine and testing services to control the spread of COVID-19 in the community. After careful consideration and observing the low trend of active cases reported in the Laredo-Webb County area, the Curative kiosks previously designated to administer the vaccines against COVID-19 will scale down their operations during the months of June and July. Curative has decided that all vaccine operations will conclude by July 30th, 2021. The last day of vaccination availability at the Independence Hills Regional Park will be July 24, 2021.

CDC recently published: COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage and Intent Among Adults Aged 18–39 Years — United States, March-May 2021.

The findings in this report indicate that trust in COVID-19 vaccines, particularly in their safety and effectiveness, was an important factor in the decision to get vaccinated among adults aged 18–39 years. Adults aged 18–39 years who were unsure about getting vaccinated or probably not going to, reported that a desire to protect others and resume social activities were motivators to get vaccinated. Suggesting that messages emphasizing that vaccination would allow them to resume social activities and encouraging vaccination for the greater good might be effective. Laredo Health continues to ensure that vaccines are easily accessible, convenient, and available in places where young adults live and work to improve vaccine acceptance and coverage.

Although the Laredo-Webb County positivity rate has risen to 5.09% the number of new infections remains low; the number of tests performed continues to decrease impacting the positivity rate. This is largely due to many persons now being vaccinated.

Locally, 95 active cases have been reported on Thursday, June 24, 2021. Of those, 46 are between the ages of 20-39. Thirty four out of the 46 active cases within that age range are not vaccinated according to investigation and Immtrac2 verification. Of the 34 not vaccinated, 23 are detainees/migrants from the Laredo Processing Center, Webb County Detention Center, and Rio Grande Detention Center (GEO). Seventy two cases are in the Laredo-Webb population. Of those vaccinated, only five are vaccine breakthrough cases who experienced none or mild symptoms.

The Laredo Health Department continues to offer vaccines to those who are interested, ensuring vaccines are accessible, convenient, and available to the Laredo-Webb County community.
