(Laredo, Texas)-While the annual H.E.B. Excellence in Education Awards were put on hold due to the pandemic, the grocery giant opted to expand on the recognition program with a statewide Texas Loves Teachers bus tour. During the tour, H.E.B. is visiting 50 school districts and early childhood education centers within 50 days – and is giving away $20,000 in H.E.B. gift cards each week.
The tour included a recent stop at Lyndon B. Johnson High School (LBJHS), thanks to innumerable nominations from our community at H.E.B.’s texaslovesteachers.com link. The celebration encompassed a visit from a special crew who rolled into town on the H.E.B. Prize Bus – which was loaded with goodies, freebies and lunch treats for teachers and staff. There were also H.E.B gift card giveaways, coupon books for free items, and more.
After the tour, H.E.B plans to give away $100,000 in cash prizes to educators throughout Texas during a virtual tribute gala on May 8. The traditional H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards will return in 2022, celebrating 20 years of impact. Since its inception in 2002, the Excellence in Education Awards program has awarded more than $13 million in grants and prizes.
