(Laredo, Texas)-Recently, the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a one week Hostage Negotiators course in Laredo. United ISD Sgt. Claudia Mireles and Sgt. Alonso Galindo attended the course and earned certifications in the law enforcement speciality. Mireles and Galindo also took a 40 hour course taught by the Association of Hostage Negotiators of Texas in 2019. The United ISD Police Department is the first responder to campuses and facilities when there are active intruders – and when an incident becomes a hostage or barricaded situation.
“I have spoken to Laredo P.D. Chief Claudio Treviño, and he said that our teams are welcome to train yearly with his staff. This training, coupled with our safety and reunification protocol, helps keep our campuses safer. I would like to thank Alexander High School Principal Erenesto Sandoval for allowing us to teach the course at his campus, and congratulate our sergeants on their certifications”, said United ISD Police Chief Ray Garner.
