LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry seized methamphetamine in two separate, unrelated incidents that totaled $1.4 million in street value.
“These drugs will not reach Main Street USA due to the efforts of our frontline CBP officers in our cargo facilities,” said Acting Port Director Eugene Crawford, Laredo Port of Entry. “As these seizures illustrate, we continue to maintain a robust border security posture against criminal networks and their organizations.”
The first enforcement action occurred on Thursday, March 18th, at the World Trade Bridge, when CBP officers assigned to the cargo facility encountered a 2016 Kenworth tractor hauling a shipment of multipurpose rock panel paste arriving from Mexico. The tractor and shipment were referred for a secondary inspection. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, CBP officers discovered a total of four containers holding 48.58 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the shipment. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $971,787.
The second seizure occurred on Friday, March 19th, also at the World Trade Bridge, when officers intercepted a 2017 Ford F350 manifesting one fiberglass decorative figure arriving from Mexico. The truck and shipment were referred for a secondary inspection. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, CBP officers discovered a total of 22.57 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the shipment. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $451,502.
The narcotics have a combined street value of $1,423,289.
CBP seized the narcotics. The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
