LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry apprehended a man with an active warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child out of Waxahachie, Texas.

“As this arrest illustrates, CBP continues to play a vital role in protecting our communities by apprehending fugitives facing outstanding warrants for serious crimes, particularly those involving the sexual exploitation of children,” stated Acting Port Director Eugene Crawford, Laredo Port of Entry.

The fugitive apprehension occurred on Thursday, January 21st, at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge. A CBP officer processing a bus arriving from Mexico, referred passenger Javier Rodriguez, a 40 year-old male Mexican citizen, for a secondary inspection.

After escorting the passenger to secondary, subsequent biometric verification through law enforcement databases confirmed that the subject had an outstanding warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child, a class 1 felony, pursued by Texas Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.

The warrant was confirmed to be active. CBP officers transported the wanted fugitive to Webb County Jail in Laredo, Texas to await criminal proceedings. Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
