LAREDO, Texas –The City of Laredo sends a second emergency message after receiving word from local hospitals of their capacity issues. Currently both Laredo Medical Center and Doctors Hospital have to divert patients to local standalone facilities. The message is intended to create immediate awareness on how our medical professionals and hospitals are overwhelmed with the surge in COVID-19 cases.
“Both LMC and Doctors have initiated diversion with over 36 patients in overflow in their ERs. In line with the City of Laredo’s Surge Plan patients will be diverted to Laredo Specialty. We plead with the community to stay home and limit activity to essential purposes.” Said Laredo Health Authority, Dr. Victor Trevino on the situation that occurred last night in our hospitals.
Currently the Emergency Management Coordinator and Laredo Fire Chief, Guillermo Heard, is also working to divert patients to other hospitals outside of our city, as needed. The City of Laredo is in a critical situation, therefore, we are asking the community to please stay home unless it is absolutely necessary. Think about how important is your next outing or visit is, and let’s start making better decision to stop the spread of the virus.
