LAREDO, TEXAS – On December 23, 2020, Alyssa Cigarroa was sworn-in to the Laredo City Council as the new District 8 Council Member. The ceremony took place at the “No Dejes de Soñar” art mural and was led by Former U.S. House of Representatives from Texas’ 20th Congressional District, Charlie Gonzalez. The event was also shown virtually via Zoom.

Aside from her election to city council, Cigarroa is the Executive Administrator of Cigarroa Interventional Institute and Founder of Laredo Contra COVID, a social media channel focusing on educating the public about the impact COVID-19 has left in our community. Furthermore, she is also Co-founder and President of Cultivarte, a local non-profit organization. As Ms. Cigarroa accompanied her father, Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa, to make house calls to numerous COVID-19 patients, she was motivated to run for city council.

“I am beyond honored to join the Laredo City Council representing District 8 and giving its residents a voice,” says Council Member Cigarroa. “As city council member, I will be honest, committed, accessible, and accountable.”

The City of Laredo congratulates Alyssa Cigarroa and wishes her well during her term in the Laredo City Council.
