LAREDO, Texas—The City of Laredo has proclaimed the month of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in our community. Together with the Pink-To-Do Non-Profit Organization, Mayor Pro-Tempore and Council Member for District IV Alberto Torres, and Council Member for District V Nelly Vielma held a press conference to raise awareness on this important cause. We heard testimonials from a recovered patient and family members that lost a loved one to breast cancer.
Did you know that one in eight women will develop some kind of breast cancer this year? The local organization Pink-to-Do has been able to help more than 500 women diagnosed with breast cancer in our community. They report there are five new cases in our community this year, and four of them are on Stage 4. That is why the City of Laredo wants help in educating our community on what causes this disease, assist with prevention, diagnosis, treatment and a cure.
The City of Laredo is going pink to raise awareness in the community and they are encouraging employees to wear the color pink every Friday of this month to remind everyone of the importance of education and early screenings.
